Reference and Instruction Librarian at Corban University in Salem, Oregon and presenter Garrett Trott has been following the faith and learning dialog through the last several years. His master’s degree in theology has prepared him for dealing with the philosophical foundations that undergird all disciplines: including Library Science. His theological education coupled with his numerous faith and learning projects at Corban University and his MLS has equipped him for looking at librarianship through Christian lenses.

Description
The foundational elements under-girding the practice of librarianship are data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. However distinctive, their interrelated and progressive nature is one of few things upon which scholarship, regardless of discipline, agrees. The voices of Scripture provide a less linear picture with passages such as Proverbs 1:7, that says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction,” and Colossians 2:2-3 “… the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” This presentation will look at data, information, knowledge, and wisdom from a biblical perspective, assessing scholarly literature in this light, to understand how this lens affects the nature of Christian librarianship in the 21st century.
