Description
Despite buildings' ubiquity in—and their impact on—organizational life, they garner little attention in organizational research. The building design and construction industry represents a centuries-long tradition of temporary organizations, and buildings affect linked organizational and employee identity, working arrangements, and quality of workspace. This interactive panel symposium discusses the strategies, relationships, and opportunities inherent in the empirical site of green building, as both an industry and a movement. The symposium will pose three main questions: (a) What are the organizational incentives and barriers for building green? (b) What can organizational scholars learn from the rise of a social movement within a field comprising temporary organizations? (c) What motivations and meanings are antecedent or consequent to an organization's enactment of green building?
