Joe Walden is the Director of the Supply Chain Leadership Institute, a non-profit supply chain education center, and has over 28 years of supply chain, distribution and acquisition experience in a variety of jobs throughout the US and Internationally. He led a supply chain organization with an annual spend of over $600 million. He designed and operated a multi-million square foot distribution center to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2003, Joe was selected one of the “Top 20 Logistics Executives in America” and was the Supply and Demand Chain Executive Magazine’s “2004 Supply Chain Practitioner of the Year.” He is the author of two books and numerous articles on supply chain and leadership issues. Joe has a new book on supply chain leadership due to be released in December 2008. Joe’s education includes a BS from North Carolina State University, an MBA with a concentration in logistics and an MS in Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology and an MA in Operational Planning. In addition to being an APICS CFPIM, he is also a Six Sigma Green Belt and certified in Lean.

This presentation examines operations management lessons learned in establishing a multi-million square foot distribution center and the distribution system to support all supplies and equipment for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
