Steve Knight has worked in advancement research for over eight years. He is currently the Assistant Director of Research, Strategic Initiatives at the University of Florida Foundation directing research efforts for corporate and foundation development projects. He was formerly Assistant Director of Research at the University of South Florida Foundation, and Information Analysis Manager at the American Cancer Society, Florida Division. Steve currently serves on the APRA International Ethics Committee. He was Volunteer Co-Chair for the APRA International Conference in both 2006 and 2007, and served as president of APRA-FL from 2006 to 2008.

Description
This session will discuss various aspects of ethics in the practice of advancement research. Questions of confidentiality, accountability and conflicts of interest will be addressed. Discussion will focus on guidelines and best practices for the ethical collection of information and its application in proper context. Issues surrounding privacy and ethics as it relates particularly to the use of personal information in the advancement professions with consideration of technology and the internet will be explored.
