Description
This presentation begins with an explanation of cool roofing basics and terminology, then examines the environmental benefits of these systems in a healthcare environment, including decreased energy consumption, a reduction in urban heat island effect, reduced emissions, enhanced sustainability and possible contributions to LEED credits. It then provides an overview of how building owners and managers can benefit economically through incentives such as lower insurance rates, attractive mortgages, tax deductions, lower permit fees and cash back on credits. The session enables attendees to:
- Learn about the emerging concept of "cool roofing" and properties required by a roof to be considered "cool."
- Increase their knowledge about current codes/guidelines regarding cool roofing as well as possible future developments affecting the criteria
- Compare energy usage between healthcare facilities that utilize cool roofing and those that don't.
