Description
The adoption of electronic medical records (EMRs) has presented challenges to all personnel involved with installing and supporting new technologies. Hear how several hospitals used design decisions to facilitate and streamline the adoption of EMRs in their facilities. This session will enable you to-
• Use information presented in the case studies showing how to incorporate EMR technology for enhanced patient care to design health care facilities.
• Adopt ideas from examples of successful integration programs to enhance EMR use in health care facility projects.
• List three successful design strategies, based on a review of the case study and data provided, that can be adapted to existing facilities in order to provide effective and efficient patient care services.
• Describe the impact that redesign has, based on research and case studies, on patients and staff in terms of efficiencies and the provision of high-quality care.

  • Describe the political, technological and clinical influences of the implementation of electronic medical records.
  • List the advantages and disadvantages to different EMR charting models.
  • List the different models for accommodating electronic charting in new or renovated inpatient bed units.
