Description
This session examines lean design principles (a.k.a. the Toyota Way) and how they were applied during the expansion of Seattle Children's Hospital. Hear how staff involvement and support during a weeklong integrated design event was crucial to the success of the project. This session will enable you to-
• Describe the basic principles of lean management as shown in the case study to gain project team support for adopting this approach to project delivery.
• Discuss, based on the case study, how staff involvement and support during the planning process are integral to the success of a health care facility design project.
• List issues raised by facility staff in the case study to demonstrate the types of concerns a project team can expect to hear when including end users early in the planning process for a health care facility project.
• Explain the importance of planning, as shown in the case study, for producing a health care facility project that supports quality patient care and is delivered on time and on budget.
