Description
Health care reform will require hospitals of the future to do more with less. This presentation will provide an overview of key trends and their expected impact on how hospitals operate as well as the planning process and tools required for success in this dynamic reform environment. Planning based on scenarios, including various possibilities for future patient volume; the necessity for operational cost benchmarking to help manage expenses; and the implications for capital will be discussed. This session will enable you to-
• Discuss the macroeconomics of health care today, based on current research and trends, in terms of the impact health care reform will have on planning and design of health care facilities.
• Use scenario planning and benchmarking as presented in case study examples, to manage expenses and capital expenditures when planning future health care facility projects.
• List three successful design strategies, based on a review of data provided, that can be adapted to existing facilities to provide effective and efficient patient care services.
• Discuss the impact the health care reform movement is likely to have on the health care physical environment, based on information about current and upcoming regulations and case studies that demonstrate best practices for meeting community health needs in light of financial constraints.
