ASHE and the International Code Council (ICC) have formed an ad hoc committee to comprehensively review and update provisions in the International Codes (I-Codes) that apply to new and existing hospitals and ambulatory care facilities. The committee is developing proposals to change language in the I-Codes with the goal of achieving contemporary, effective, and efficient provisions for hospitals and ambulatory care facilities that can assure the highest level of safety for all users of such facilities. • Explain the I-Code change process.
• Discuss some of the anticipated changes to the building code that align it more closely with the codes and standards used for health care facility survey and inspection.
