Self Regional Healthcare has measured worker and patient safety for more than four years and now utilizes the “safety rate” in organizational goals and as part of leadership evaluation. Safety event definitions have expanded and track externally published never events and near misses related to patient safety and integrate OSHA definitions for worker safety. This session shares the methodology for establishing a rate, the ongoing means of defining and measuring, and the impact of successful activities on the safety rate. The speakers show how quality improvement, infection control, patient safety and risk management activities are linked.
