Description
In 2008, 16 hospitals joined the Premier Perinatal Safety Initiative and implemented processes to improve communication between nurses and physicians, enhance clinical teamwork, practice clinical emergencies and standardize protocols for induction and augmentation and vacuum and forceps application. This session lists components of the initiative, including baseline high reliability measurements and the impact these efforts have had in reducing birth-related injuries.

  • Describe the components of the Premier Perinatal Patient Safety Initiative
  • Identify 3 birth-related harm metrics and 3 patient safety strategies to improve outcomes
  • Recognize characteristics of high reliability performance in L&D and the methodology for assessment
