Description
While incidents of unexplained cardiopulmonary arrest after general anesthesia and opioid administration have been reported in association with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), 80-90 percent of OSA patients are undiagnosed. In 2008, the Joint Commission considered OSA as a proposed National Patient Safety Goal. This session identifies patients at risk for sleep apnea-related complications, explains liabilities related to undiagnosed sleep apnea and shares strategies to reduce complications.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
Identify patients at risk for sleep apnea related complications
Identify strategies to reduce the risk of OSA related complications based on nat'l recommendations
Understand risks of liability related to undiagnosed sleep apnea
