Dr. Vellman graduated from the University of Florida Medical School in 1980, completed his residency in emergency medicine at Denver General Hospital in 1984, and became board certified in emergency medicine in 1985. He has been a leader in emergency medicine throughout his career, serving as the president of the Colorado Trauma Institute from 1994 to 1995; president of medical staff at the St. Anthony hospitals from 2002-2003; and a member and chairman of the St. Anthony Foundation board. Pete is a practicing emergency physician and cofounder of Serio Physician Management, a physician management company specializing in risk management.

Description
Case studies help analyze unique aspects of the delivery of emergency medicine in hospitals including pre-hospital services, the patient evaluation process without prior physician/patient relationship, managing multiple patients with various complaints and trauma care. The speakers recommend best-practice risk management strategies to implement in hospital emergency departments.
