Melinda Sturgess is a Risk Management Specialist in the Risk Management Department at Texas Childrens Hospital. She is a registered nurse and has been with the hospital in various capacities since 1990 and with Risk Management since 2001. She is a member of Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management and American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. She is a certified legal nurse consultant and received her CPHRM in 2008
Mayson Mead-Planck is the Assistant Director of Risk Management at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, where she oversees event investigations and claims handling, educates staff in risk management principles and techniques, and develops policies and procedures and other risk prevention efforts. She also serves as legal counsel on healthcare-related matters. Mayson received her Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the University of Houston. She has been active in the Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management since 2001, serving as a board member from 2006-2007 and Vice President in 2008. She joined ASHRM in 2005 and received her CPHRM in 2007.
Description
Texas Children’s launched a system-wide campaign promoting risk management throughout the organization. This session promotes the benefits of having, and tips for implementing, an all-inclusive risk management program that includes ways to partner with staff, outside counsel and insurers. It reviews challenges and benefits faced by Texas Children’s risk management department efforts to become true partners with the clinical staff and a trusted resource rather than a police force.
