Gregg Timmons is a Regional Consulting Healthcare Manager with Global Loss Prevention, Inc., a member company Chartis Insurance. He has twenty-four years of experience within the healthcare industry. As a healthcare attorney, he specialized in risk management, medical malpractice claims management, and employment practice issues while working for healthcare systems in Louisiana and Texas. Mr. Timmons is also a registered nurse with over twelve years clinical experience in medical/surgical and psychiatric settings, providing and supervising clinical care for adult, adolescent, geriatric and chemically dependent populations.
Mr. Timmons holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from McLennan Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Masters of Arts degree in Communication from Southwest Texas State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. He has been admitted to the bar of Texas and Louisiana. He also has obtained the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) from the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management and the American Hospital Association.

Description
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) requires hospitals to screen every person who requests emergency care. Interpretation of the statute by hospitals, CMS and the courts has evolved significantly. This presentation examines compliance elements including medical screening, transfers with or without stabilization, on-call specialist issues, record keeping requirements and liability.
