Description
Produce incident reports relating to medication errors from the last five years? Provide patient grievance reports involving pressure sores from the last decade? Where would you begin to respond? Does your facility have a document retention and destruction plan that allows you to comply with your jurisdiction’s requirements? As plaintiff’s attorneys become more sophisticated in obtaining internal risk management documents, protection from immobilizing document requests becomes more important. This session examines ABA and ARMA best practices to assist in establishing a systematic file maintenance process to reduce the risks associated with exposing your files.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Develop a checklist of considerations for implementing an effective file management plan.
  • Identify potential avenues of exposure through inadequate file management practices.
  • Survey privileges and laws applicable to file creation, retention and discovery in litigation.
