Description
This session reviews operational models for air medical programs and reviews accident rates and governmental oversight/recommendations. Hot topics include helicopter shopping/weather turndown with discussion of the hospital’s role in this safety concern, as well as patient safety and standardization of processes and equipment, post-accident incident plan drills, regulatory issues and risk management strategies involving insurance and contract review.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Achieve an understanding of helicopter shopping and weather turndown in air medical services.
  • Develope scenarios to test the PAIP plan at a hospital involing an air medical diaster or event.
  • Foster effective education of all users regarding the risks and benefits of air medical services.
