Lauree Barreca has over 25 years experience in managing healthcare litigation. She is a Registered Nurse who received her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. While a partner at the law firm of OHagan, Smith and Amundsen in Chicago she represented both healthcare systems and individual physicians. As the AVP of Claims at MMI Companies, a Healthcare Risk Management firm, she was responsible for the Claims and Risk issues for their clients. She is currently the Managing Attorney, Claims and Litigation at The Johns Hopkins Health System.

Meg Garrett is a graduate of Villanova University with a BSN-She has a Masters degree in counseling and a law degree from the University of Maryland. She was a Navy Nurse and has been Senior Counsel for the Johns Hopkins Health System for 24 years.In addition,she has been the Director of Risk Management for the past 5 years. She is responsible for the risk programs for 4 hospitals including an academic medical center,home care,long term care,ambulatory practices and over 5000 doctors.She has been active with Maryland legislation.She teaches classes in the Hopkins Nursing Program and Medical School

Description
New healthcare structures and entities (e.g., “super-groups” of physicians, specialty hospitals, inclusion of more services in physician offices) are taking shape and having an impact on hospitals and risk managers. This session tackles patient care liability as well as credentialing, competitive and regulatory issues. Potential collaboration between new entities and hospitals (including electronic health records and joint ventures), along with liability and regulatory issues, are explored.
