Zimmerman is currently serving as the 2010 President of ASHRM and formerly served as a patient safety officer with Catholic Healthcare Partners (CHP). She was the first of four divisional patient safety officers hired to help accelerate system-wide patient safety and clinical transformation. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and a broad perspective in part because of her background as both a registered nurse and an attorney at law, Zimmerman is active on corporate, state and national committees that address risk management patient safety, legislative and regulatory issues, research and other initiatives. She is nationally known for presentations on patient safety and risk management, as well as testimony to state and national hearings on risk, legal and regulatory topics. She is past president of the Ohio Society of Risk Managers and voted the Ohio Risk Manager of the Year in 2003.

Kristen Kenst has been involved in healthcare policy, delivery and law for the past five years. She worked as an intern in the U.S. House of Representatives, completed a risk management internship, and served as legal counsel for a managed care health system. Kristen currently oversees the risk management functions of a regional healthcare delivery system, consisting of two acute care, four long-term care, and other alternate settings. Kristen received her bachelors degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and then continued on to obtain her JD and MBA in Health Care Management from the University of Akron.
Description
A risk management professional's career can be stressful, tumultuous and challenging. This session will explore the use of coaching, mentoring and partnering, and the benefits these strategies provide to both the experienced risk manager and the professional seeking an enhanced risk management experience. It will involve a story about a new risk manager's approach to entering the profession and moving her career to the next level with the thoughts and reflections offered by her mentor and coach.
