Krishna is the Director of Risk Management Resources for ASHRM. She is responsible for the development and execution of programs and initiatives to advance ASHRM in the areas of professional development, professional standards and advocacy.
Previously, Krishna was the Assistant Director & Liaison of Corporate Compliance Program Improvement at Rush University Medical Center where she led and managed system-wide HIPAA compliance and served as a liaison to ensure system compliance with applicable policies, laws and regulations. As the Assistant Director of Risk Management, she led and managed claims; managed components of the risk financing program for a self insurance program; and was responsible for implementing a variety of organizational loss control activities that improved patient care and outcomes. Krishna held a dual role as Director, Office of Patient Rights, in which she was responsible for ensuring compliance with CMS Patient Rights Conditions of Participation through the investigation of allegations of a violation of patient rights.
Krishna began her career as a critical care professional registered nurse. She has a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and a Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law. In addition, she holds the CPHRM credential and has authored several contributions to the Journal of Healthcare Risk Management, American Medical Associations Virtual Mentor, and the Risk Management Handbook for Health Care Organizations 6th Edition.

Michelle Hoppes is the President and CEO of Patient Safety and Risk Solutions LLC, a national consulting company. Michelle also serves as a Senior Vice President for the Emergency Physicians Insurance Company.
Michelle has served in volunteer positions, on several national committees and/or Boards including, the USP Safe Medication Committee, the Michigan Society Healthcare Risk Management, and the National Patient Safety Foundation. She is currently serving as the President elect for the American Society Healthcare Risk Management, and as a and as a Board member and secretary for the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation.

Barbara Youngberg,

Visiting Professor of Law, Loyola University, Chicago
Barbara has over 20 years experience helping academic medical centers restructure quality, risk management and patient safety programs to meet current needs and challenges. During her 20 year career at UHC she analyzed malpractice data and trends, quality and patient safety data and best practice information to assist members in finding creative solutions to difficult problems. As the co-lead of UHC’s Patient Safety Net, Barbara has worked to help members integrate patient safety activities into existing quality and risk management efforts and helps members to understand the way in which the legal climate can help or hinder them in their efforts.
Barbara is a graduate of DePaul University College of Law (JD), University of Illinois –Jane Addams School of Social Work (MSW) and Illinois Wesleyan University (BSN). She is presently a professor of Law for Concord University School of Law and a Visiting Professor of Law at Loyola University Chicago, Beazley Health Law Institute. Before coming to UHC, Barbara worked to defend hospitals and physicians from medical malpractice claims and subsequently to learn from those experiences. She is the author of numerous articles and textbooks on quality management, risk management and patient safety.

Erik is an Associate Director & Actuary with Aon Global Risk Consulting in Raleigh, NC. Erik currently serves as the Healthcare Practice Leader for Aon’s Actuarial & Analytics Practice. As a consulting actuary to the healthcare industry, Erik works with his clients to best manage and maintain self insured professional liability exposures. He works with a wide variety of healthcare organizations including hospital systems, long term care providers, and physician groups. In addition to his client work, Erik authors the annual Aon/ASHRM Hospital Professional Liability and Physician Liability Benchmarking Study. Erik is a frequent speaker on professional liability benchmarking results and trends.

Description
In celebration of Patient Safety Awareness Week, "Let's Talk: Healthy Conversations for Safer Healthcare," ASHRM and the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) will share lessons learned from partnering with patients to reduce medical errors and improve safety outcomes. Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 7-13, 2010 commemorates the role of the patients in safety and their relationship with healthcare providers.
This program will explore Patient Advisory Councils, how disclosure can impact performance improvement activities and system redesign, and how healthcare risk management, patient safety and quality professionals can collaborate to involve patients in safety.
