Yvonne D'Angelo Zawodny is Corporate Assistant Vice President of Risk Management for Baptist Health South Florida. Ms. Zawodny has been with Baptist Health South Florida since 1976, beginning her career as a registered nurse. In 1987 she became risk manager. She received her degree in nursing from Miami Dade College and a bachelor’s degree from Barry University. She is a member of FSHRMPS, ASHRM, AHA, RIMS and SFHA. She volunteers as a mentor in the Women of Tomorrow program and is a frequent guest speaker at symposiums and seminars regarding risk management, claims management and patient safety.

Geri Schimmel, RN, MS, LHRM, Clinical Patient Safety Consultant, Baptist Health South Florida
Geri Schimmel is a Clinical Performance Improvement Consultant for Patient Safety in the Center for Performance Excellence at Baptist Health South Florida. She has 20 years of clinical nursing experience and worked as a corporate educational consultant - coordinating hospital/health system in-service programs on safety and safety products for clinical staff and a nursing faculty member. In 2000, the focus on patient safety began. Currently coordinating the patient safety campaign Baptist Health, including development and special projects. She frequently speaks at national seminars on patient safety/ risk management including the Versant RN residency program. Memberships include ANA, NPSF and ASHRM.
Description
In an effort to promote patient safety, Baptist Health has instituted a process called Shared Learning. By sharing the lessons learned across the health system when a significant event occurs, it provides an opportunity to improve processes and educate all employees, leadership and our boards. The philosophy of shared learning is to prevent similar incidents from occurring. During this session you will view a video created from an adverse event which highlights the lessons learned, actions taken and relationships formed. (Session # Part 2 will focus on the details of the case and process).
