Lauren joined Corporate Risk Management in February 1998, and has been in the Baptist System over 24 years working in performance improvement and risk management in both acute care, urgent care and home care. In her current position, she has risk management oversight for all of the Baptist Memorial Health Care System entities with a focus on regulatory issues. She is the system coordinator for the Alerts Tracker program and MedSun project.

Maria Garrity, Regional Account Executive, ECRI Institute
Maria Garrity is the Northeast Regional Account Executive for ECRI Institute. She joined ECRI Institute in 2006, and has worked with hundreds of hospitals and health systems worldwide in developing strong and effective programs around product safety alerts management. In her current role, Maria Garrity has delivered over 500 educational and training presentations to a variety of healthcare professionals.
Description
In this presentation, we will discuss important issues regarding patient safety in the modern healthcare enterprise. Specific focus will be placed on hazard and safety alert management best practices, challenges and typical pitfalls to avoid, and observations on effective programs. You will also learn how Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation worked to develop a very strong and effective safety alert management program across their system. Finally, a review of ECRI Institute's top ten healthcare technology hazards for 2011 will be provided, along with guidance and recommendations to help you ensure that your hospital is not at risk.
