Ms. Cushman has been an attorney for more than 30 years and is a Certified Specialist in Appellate Law, certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. She received her bachelors degree from San Diego State University and her law degree from California Western School of Law.
Ms. Cushman is a Senior Attorney with Ryan, Datomi & Mosely, a law firm containing members with a combined experience of over 60 years representing hospitals, physicians, skilled nursing facilities and other healthcare providers in matters involving medical malpractice, staff privileges and elder abuse.

As the Vice President of Healthcare Risk Management at Allied World National Assurance Company, Kristen provides consulting and client services to psychiatrists, behavioral health providers and facilities nationally. She has experience as an attorney in Massachusetts and Connecticut where her practice was comprised of medical malpractice defense & health law matters including guardianships and advance directives. Kristen has also worked as a clinical social worker with a background in community and tertiary hospitals as well as community mental health settings across the age continuum.
Kristen has authored & co-authored publications including the legal textbook Massachusetts Elder Law.

She is a registered nurse in the State of California and has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Description
Age-related changes in the brain predispose elderly residents to behaviors such as noncompliance, agitation, depression, and combativeness, all of which can be very difficult to manage. This program provides reasons for those behaviors, important signs and symptoms to watch for, management techniques to prevent danger to the resident and others, and family, regulatory, and legal issues to consider in the treatment of these residents.
