Description
"Thrombotic events, the most common non-infectious complication
of central venous catheters (CVC), place parenteral nutrition
recipients at risk for a number of adverse consequences including
disruption of therapy, loss of access, increased risk of infection and
life-threatening embolism. In recent years, concerns surrounding
the use of heparin and thrombolytic agents have challenged
long-standing practices for maintaining CVC patency. This dynamic
interdisciplinary session will take a comprehensive look at the
prevention and treatment of thrombotic complications of CVCs,
specifying practical approaches that would reduce the incidence and
associated risk factors of CVC-related thrombosis."
