"Obesity causes a low-grade systemic inflammatory response. This has been hypothesized to be the main reason why these patients have worse ICU outcomes including length of ICU time, time on the ventilator and infections, when compared to normal BMI patients. Pharmaconutrition has been shown to improve these outcomes in normal BMI patients and might lead to improved ICU outcomes for obese patients. Health care providers will explore the connection between obesity and inflammation, while receiving optimistic insight on pharmaconutrition and how it may help improve inflammation in obese patients and potentially improve ICU outcomes."
