Description
"The Dudrick Research Symposium is named in honor of Dr. Stanley J.
Dudrick whose pioneering research led to the landmark development
of parenteral nutrition. The annual Stanley Dudrick Research Scholar
Award recognizes and supports an A.S.P.E.N. member and investigator
in early to mid-career who has shown significant achievement, and
who demonstrates exceptional research productivity and potential.
David Driscoll, RPh, PhD was selected as the recipient of the 2009
Stanley Dudrick Research Scholar Award. Dr. Driscoll, a long–term
member of A.S.P.E.N. who generously contributed to the organization
in many leadership roles in education, publishing and research
is the first pharmacist to receive the Dudrick Award. For 24 years,
Dr. Driscoll served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Harvard
School of Medicine and on the research staff in the Department of
Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He
is a prolific author and has been honored with the A.S.P.E.N. Stanley
Serlick Award for improving safe practices for parenteral nutrition.
Dr. Driscoll has designed an exhilarating symposium on parenteral
lipid therapy featuring two internationally recognized speakers,
Dr. Bruce Bistrian, and Dr. Mark Puder. Cutting-edge issues and
research in lipid therapy will be presented, including essential fatty
acids and their role during acute metabolic stress, the therapeutic
role of select fatty acids during parenteral nutrition-associated liver
disease and pharmacopeia standards and the need for a pharmaceutical
equivalence of all parenteral lipid emulsions."
