Description
"Patients undergoing transplantation are at high risk of nutrient
depletion due to poor dietary intake, potential malabsorption and
altered metabolism. Case reports have suggested that altered vitamin
and mineral nutriture exists in patients who have undergone small
bowel, multivisceral and liver transplantation. In addition, transplant
patients who take herbal supplements may unknowingly
create problems including organ rejection. This symposium will
evaluate vitamin/mineral nutriture in this patient population and
present case reports of specific abnormalities requiring treatment or
supplementation. This program will also highlight common herbal
supplements and potential safety issues in transplant recipients."
