Talk Title: Recommended Changes in Parenteral Vitamin and Trace Element Products
|
Description
In 2009, A.S.P.E.N. created the Novel Nutrient Task Force with the purpose to evaluate the safety, efficacy and/or adequacy of key novel nutrients for use in parenteral nutrient formulations. One area targeted for review is parenteral vitamins and trace elements. This comprehensive review included both individual and multiple ingredient formulations. Members of the task force will review the process employed in creation of the A.S.P.E.N. position paper for changes in commercially available parenteral multi-vitamin and multi-trace element products as well as detail the current gaps in products, recommended changes and barriers to change.
Objectives
1. Describe the methodology and process of evaluation and creation of a parenteral vitamins and trace element product position paper
2. Evaluate the current parenteral vitamins and trace elements available on the U.S. and European Market
3. Analyze the scientific evidence supporting recommended changes in parenteral vitamin and trace element products
