Description
In this course, the role of radiation therapy in the management of patients with indolent and aggressive lymphoma will be reviewed. The curative role and long-term treatment outcome of radiation therapy in patients with localized follicular lymphoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma will be highlighted. Indications for and approaches to palliative radiation therapy (including low-dose radiation treatment) in patients with advanced-stage or recurrent indolent lymphoma will also be discussed. In addition, prospective and retrospective studies addressing the role of consolidative radiation therapy in patients with newly diagnosed early-and advanced-stage aggressive lymphoma, or recurrent/refractory lymphoma will be critically reviewed. Evidence-based recommendations on radiation therapy as part of curative as well as salvage therapy will be summarized. Finally this course will address radiation treatment techniques, fields and doses in various specific clinical scenarios. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to do the following: 1. Analyze the literature on the role of radiation therapy in the management of indolent and aggressive lymphoma. 2. Recognize the indications for and approaches to radiation therapy in the setting of newly-diagnosed disease, salvage therapy and palliation. 3. Describe radiation treatment fields, techniques and doses in various clinical scenarios.
