Description
"Mexico, India, Thailand and more recently the Human Genome Project Pacific Pan-Asian SNP Initiative, are each carrying out large scale genotyping projects to better understand genomic variation within their own populations. In addition, Mexico has also established its own National Institute of Genomic Medicine to impulse scientific and technological development as well as reduce the costs associated with frequent diseases and generate new commercial products and services. These initiatives are expected to generate a key resource for local
researchers to identify genes that affect health, disease and responses to drugs and environmental factors. The cost efficiencies resulting from this knowledge could provide major medical benefits for people in developing countries. At the same time, pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics presents a particular opportunity in developing and industrialized countries."

Objective1:Provide information about ongoing large-scale genotyping projects in developing countries.

Objective2:Explore investment and collaborative opportunities for private industry.

Objective3:Inform and engage policy makers and regulatory officials from international delegations.
