"This symposium will provide an interactive opportunity to discuss new and on-going directions that the European Commission (EC) United States (U.S.) Task Force on Biotechnology Research is taking regarding strategies for applying biotech tools to sustainable energy production. The task force is also discussing socioeconomic considerations related to the development of biobased fuels. Presenters will discuss and solicit the views of biotechnologists, social scientists and economists."


Objective1Provide an update on the social and legal context and recent research trends in the sustainable energy production field.

Objective2:Compare and contrast the situation in the EU and in the United States.

Objective3:Explore opportunities for EU-U.S. collaboration in research.
