Alternative Energy Resources in India Through Biotechnology
Track : Industrial and Environmental
Program Code: 716
Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Time: 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM  EST
Location: 28AB
Description
"Bioenergy has been drawing attention as a sustainable energy source that can help us cope with rising energy prices, address environmental concerns about greenhouse gas emissions, and offer new income and employment to farmers and rural communities around the world. A large array of technologies and systems are available to provide biomass-based energy services; but many of them are still under development or in early-market stages of implementation. However, there is considerable scope for exploiting small-scale options for growing and processing biomass to meet local energy needs in developing countries."

Objective1:"Explore bioenergy as an environmentally sustainable, economically viable and pro-poor source of energy."

Objective2:Address various models that can be developed using alternative crops with potential for biofuel production.

Objective3:Provide opportunities for developing win-win alliances between international and Indian biotech companies.
