The Business of Climate Change
Track : Industrial and Environmental
Program Code: 1116
Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008
Time: 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM  EST
Location: 28AB
Description
"The intersection of biology and energy is the new frontier in biotechnology. Motivated by high oil prices and concern over greenhouse gases, big energy companies, universities and government agencies are all racing, independently and
collaboratively, to develop alternative fuels. The intensity
of the effort may be ignited further by California's Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (Cal. Health & Safety Code §§ 38500-599) and by state regulations that impose motor vehicle emissions standards more stringent than those imposed by the Federal Clean Air Act. This session will address the impact of California's regulations on plans for doing business in the state and nationally in the future."

Objective1:Increase understanding of the important intersection between biotechnology and alternative energy production and its role in the development and implementation of climate change legislation and energy policy.

Objective2:Focus on strategies to exploit opportunities and avoid risks as the race to create technically and economically viable alternative biofuels intensifies.

Objective3:Present opportunities that created in connection with sustainable alternative-energy projects.
