However, changing from fossil to renewable feedstocks and from synthetic to biotech processes is a complex challenge. The chemical industry is following the pharma model, moving from all in-house R&D to outsourcing and partnering innovation. Only industries able to build a cluster of synergistic and excellent partners in academia, industry and SME will pass.
