It's Not Only Energy: The Chemical Industry Is a Key Driver in Building Clean-Tech Clusters
Track : Industrial and Environmental
Program Code: 541
Date: Thursday, June 19, 2008
Time: 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM  EST
Location: 28AB
Description
"Ecological and economical drivers like the highly visible climate change and unpredictable economics of fossil oil pull the chemical markets toward biorenewable feedstocks. In addition the enormous progress in biotechnologies is the pushing booster. Consequently, chemical industries urgently need clean technologies, processes and products. However, changing from fossil to renewable feedstocks and from synthetic to biotech processes is a complex challenge. The chemical industry is following the pharma model, moving from all in-house R&D to outsourcing and partnering innovation. Only industries able to build a cluster of synergistic and excellent partners in academia, industry and SME will pass. This panel will discuss success factors in building competitive biotech clusters all over the value chain, including business models and legal issues."

Objective1:Discuss the driving forces toward industrial biotechnology in the chemical industry.

Objective2:Outline attractive business models in industrial biotechnology for SME partnering with big industry.

Objective3:Outline success factors in building a cluster all over the value chain.
