Description
Two universities have adopted global socially responsible principles for their licensing programs. One utilized its royalty stream to promote an innovative economic development model in Southern Africa to enhance its local capacity to develop new therapies. Companies also are pursuing innovative programs to bolster the local health-care infrastructure. We will examine how universities and companies can shift their policy and philosophy to support the local environment and capacity building in a developing country to have a larger impact and to actively engage the local community in the process.

• Highlight challenges of implementing global socially responsible principles including upsides and the lessons learned
• Demonstrate how capacity building in the local community can enhance technology transfer and product development
• Encourage audience to think creatively about optimizing capacity for healthcare and econ development
