Description
As a result of substantial investment by philanthropic foundations and governments, progress has been made in treating several of the diseases that afflict many of the world's citizens. However, funding of global health product development is a minor fraction of the overall R&D expenditure and venture capital investment, few companies are involved, and the chance for potentially breakthrough therapies remains small. This panel will present current business models for global healthproduct development, discuss ideas for deepening the pool of money and talent available to start-up and established companies, and examine the possibility of creating a competitive, market driven, global health industry.

• Provide useful information on the current sources of global health R and D funding
• Stimulate new ideas for accelerating R&D for global health
• Initiate contacts among disparate groups with an interest in this topic
