Description
PDPs are becoming important contributors in the global public health community by developing essential tools to support disease control efforts. To achieve their goals and ensure their development activities, PDPs rely on publicly available as well as patented technologies developed by both the public and private sector. A great challenge for PDPs it to access patented technologies under conditions ensuring products affordability and accessibility to neglected patients, while preserving the interests of patent holders. This panel will discuss the structuring of deals—through the perspective of IP management and access to knowledge— which can accommodate the apparently divergent interests of global health non-profit organizations and their private and public sector partners, and provide examples of successful licensing strategies.

• Examine the challenges of tech transfer, FTO and IP management specific to PDPs and global health issues
• Identify classical pitfalls and diffi culties around IP/licensing and access to knowledge specific to PDPs to reach a well balanced deal
• Discuss innovative IP/licensing strategies adapted to both PDP's and pharma's objectives
