Biomarkers for Traumatic Brain Injury: An Emerging Diagnostic Area
Track : Biomarkers

Description
Traumatic brain injury (TBI), sometimes referred to as the "silent epidemic", is a significant neurological disorder that affects millions of Americans in both the civilian and military environments. Current diagnosis of TBI includes neurological examination and neuroimaging such as CT scanning and MRI, all of which have some limitations. Recent advances in proteomics and systems biology have made possible the discovery of novel biomarkers for TBI. Sensitive sandwich ELISAs for selected biomarkers have been developed and optimized, allowing for the confi rmation of the validity and diagnostic utilities of the biomarkers in FDA-guided clinical studies.

• Describe the neuroproteomic and systems biology-based discovery of TBI biomarkers
• Describe the potential utilities of biomarkers in managing severe TBI patients
• Describe the potential utilities of biomarkers in managing moderate/mild TBI patients
