Douglas Buchmayer is with the Ottawa law firm, Drache LLP. He practices in the areas of estate planning, estate litigation, and estate administration. Douglas has lectured and taught in the area of estate administration, trust law and appeared on radio and television on the issues of powers of attorney, taxation of the family cottage, and numerous other estate planning related topics. He has written several articles on estate planning, some of which have appeared in The Financial Post.
Rowena Griffiths is Director of Personal and Planned Giving at Carleton University. Rowena has 20 years of fundraising experience ranging from major and planned gifts to cause marketing. She enjoys focusing on cultivating long-term donor relationships and is a board member of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council.

This session will give participants a different perspective on how to maximize gifts from donors who are leaving a substantial residual bequest to charity through a will. Learn how to work with your donors to plan and structure a significant gift to be more income tax efficient and to work beyond the detractors such as probate taxes and excessive administration costs.
