A member of Miller Thomson LLP’s litigation department, Mr. Hobkirk advises and represents clients in a wide variety of matters including estate and contractual disputes, employment and defamation matters, as well as tort claims involving catastrophic loss. Outside the courtroom, Mr. Hobkirk is active in professional and community organizations and has served as a director or trustee of community organizations including Sport B.C., Field Hockey B.C., The Counselling Group, City in Focus and St. Johns (Shaughnessy) Anglican Church.

Amanda Stacey is a member of Miller Thomson LLP’s Private Client Services and Charities specialty groups. She is frequently called upon to provide advice on tax and estate planning, estate administration, preparation of wills, trusts, and power of attorney documents, tax matters related to planned giving as well as business succession planning. In 2007, she was co-presenter at the CAGP-ACPDP™ GTA RoundTable’s seminar on Estate Administration for the Not-For-Profit Organization.

Description
This session will provide you with an understanding of the purpose and format of trustee accounts (with an emphasis on the rules in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario) and the calculation of trustee compensation. This will assist in understanding your organization's rights as beneficiaries of an estate or trust, including the right to a passing of accounts and the right to challenge the accounts.
