Mike Miles currently serves as the Superintendent of the Harrison School District in Colorado Springs. Under his leadership, Harrison has made significant achievement gains and is recognized as one of the most innovative districts in Colorado. He holds degrees from West Point, U.C. Berkeley, and Columbia University, and has served the public interest as an Army Ranger, Soviet analyst, Diplomat to Poland and Russia, and public school teacher. Mr. Miles also serves as an educational consultant and motivational speaker for school districts and other public organizations around the state and nation. He is recognized as an accomplished practitioner of leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and systems thinking.

Description
The role of the principal has changed from a decade ago and continues to evolve. SB 191 and Colorado's Race to the Top application place great attention on evaluating principal effectiveness. In this session, you’ll learn one system of evaluating principal performance that includes student achievement results. Superintendent Mike Miles’ approach has generated a lot of buzz and attention, and he’ll outline, at a practical level, the skills and talents needed to be an effective principal. He’ll also share an administrator evaluation system used to assess principals, provide support and professional development, and reward strong principal performance.
