Dr. Al Ramirez is a professor in the department of Leadership, Research and Foundations at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His transition to university level teaching follows an extensive career in pre-k through 14 education. Al’s experience includes positions as a teacher, counselor, principal, central office administrator and superintendent of schools. He has also held key education policy positions in the Nevada and Illinois state departments of education and served as Chief State School Officer in Iowa. Al’s consulting work has a client list that includes foundations, governments, school reform organizations and education entities.

Description
This session reports on two studies that examined teacher evaluation systems used in a sample of Colorado School districts. The studies investigated the viability of the focus and methods used by school districts in the sample to judge teacher performance, improve instruction, and advance school district goals. Each study will be presented followed by an open discussion of the topic with audience participants.
