Susan Payne is the Executive Director for the Safe2Tell prevention initiative, on assignment with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. After the Columbine tragedy, Susan was appointed to develop a statewide program to facilitate open lines of communication between young people, parents, law enforcement, and school officials, for reporting threats to safety. With unique insight into the school environment, Susan brought together partners from around the state and founded Safe2Tell, as a way to empower students to make a difference in their own schools and communities. Her focus continues to be one of early intervention and prevention through education and awareness.

Description
The lessons gained from Colorado’s unique experiences in school safety have led to comprehensive resources, partnerships and collaborations for best practice models and solutions. This session will provide useful, practical information for school administrators considering school safety planning at the school or district level. You’ll gain an overview of emergency planning tools, relevant school safety legislation, information-sharing requirements, recommended violence prevention practices and the utilization of Safe2Tell. This overview will be conducted by five leading experts from multi-disciplinary agencies providing layered support for early intervention, prevention, and positive outcomes.
