Description
Part 1: Who are your members and what rights do they have? A lawyer's perspective may surprise you! Members have the potential to exercise considerable power within an organization. This session will explore the management of relationships between organizations and their members.

Part 2: Are you ready for a new charter and bylaws this year? Major new legislation is coming for Ontario, BC and federally incorporated assocations and charities. Several Canadian jurisdictions have recently considered, or are in the midst of examining, significant revisions to their not-for-profit statutes. We will provide an overview of recent and future legislative developments, and identify key issues under discussion.

  • Learning objectives for Part 1 will include obtaining an understanding of typical membership structures, and considering practical approaches to involving members.
  • Learning objectives for Part 2 will include obtaining an overview of recent and future legislative developments and understanding the potential impact of upcoming legislative developments on an organization's operations.
