Jeff Hopkins, LL.B, Grosman, Grosman & Gale
Description
Good executives do get fired in the not-for-profit sector. How is it possible that executives with otherwise stellar performance records suddenly find themselves without a job? Based on actual research among executives, Boards, and subject authorities throughout Canada, management consultant Jack Shand will address why good executives get fired and important lessons from those who have faced an unjustified termination. Employment lawyer Jeff Hopkins will focus on relevant case law to provide insights on executive termination, and to help participants understand the signs a termination may be imminent and how to protect their interests before and subsequent to employment loss. Session benefits will include knowing how to be prepared, what to avoid in a job, and understanding what to do in the event your job is going to be terminated
Learning Outcomes
1. Understanding the causes of executive termination despite a strong record of job performance.
2. A check-list of what you must know about a prospective employer.
3. Learning from the actual experiences of other executives.
4. Knowing the warning signs that a job is in jeopardy, how to protect one's own interests, and information on important employment case law relevant to employers and employees in the not-for-profit sector (including settlements).
