Description
A successful EA professional is viewed as trustworthy both by employees and by supervisors/managers, even when these groups may not trust each other. EA providers must also struggle with the issues of trust that all counselors face: empowering clients who may feel helpless or powerless, without building dependency on the counselor, maintaining trustworthiness when faced with requirements to breach confidentiality in high risk situations, dealing with inherent power differences in the clinical setting, especially with members of oppressed groups. Join the presenters as they discuss how EA professionals can cope with the tensions in building and maintaining trusting relationships with clients and employers.
Attendees will be able to:
1. Build awareness of philosophical concerns with regard to trust, trustworthiness, and dependency
2. Understand the challenge of being trustworthy to employees and employers
3. Develop strategies for being a trustworthy EA professional and maintaining trust with clients
