Description
Almost three quarters of all illicit substance users are employed, and many of these individuals receive EA services each year. While the type of substances abused varies widely, it can often include medications prescribed by physicians. EA professionals are often faced with the momentous task of identifying atypical problems (i.e. abuse that results following medical treatment with pharmaceuticals) and monitoring progress that is maintained following an intervention for a problem. The session will include a presentation on the components of an effective computer-based program as well as recent findings demonstrating the effectiveness of these interventions.

Objectives:
• identify the components of effective computer-based programs to prevent substance abuse and support recovery in the workplace;
• interpret findings from a randomized controlled experiment testing the effectiveness of prescription drug abuse prevention program.
