Emil Chiauzzi, Ph.D., is the VP of Product Strategy at Inflexxion, Inc. in Newton, MA. Dr. Chiauzzi has authored Preventing Relapse in the Addictions and Time Effective Treatment: A Manual for Substance Abuse Professionals, and has published extensively in the areas of substance abuse treatment and interactive programs.

Description
This session will provide attendees with an evidence-based, practical overview of the use of interactive technology (Internet, smartphones, social networking, etc.) in substance abuse treatment. It will include an overview of the current technology use and misuse by substance abuse populations. In addition, the session will cover current evidence about the effectiveness of various interactive modalities and effective strategies for integrating interactive technologies into clinical care. The presenter will review evidence-based client and intervention factors that relate to effectiveness, important considerations in use of these technologies and ways to encourage healthy technology use.
1) Use interactive technologies with substance abusers in EAP settings,
2) Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different interactive treatment technologies that can be integrated into clinical care,
3) Describe key elements of program usability, interactive components that are effective for different treatment populations, and ways to educate EAP clients about healthy ways to integrate online resources into recovery
