Caterina Spinaris, a licensed professional counselor, is the Executive Director of Desert Waters Correctional Outreach, a nonprofit corporation with the mission to increase the occupational, personal and family well-being of staff of all disciplines within the corrections profession. She counsels with, trains and researches mental health issues of this population.

Description
Corrections workers are in many ways the least understood and appreciated branch of law enforcement. This session presents a basic understanding of the corrections worker culture. Learn about the work-related stressors that negatively affect corrections employees; the concept of Corrections Fatigue and its impact on staff's sense of identity, worldview, spirituality, core beliefs, and coping strategies. Discover effective brief treatment approaches and relevant resources for corrections staff and family members who may seek EAP services. Data will be shared from a national survey on PTSD rates among corrections workers.
1) Identify main stressors experienced by corrections employees;
2) Identify relevant brief-therapy treatment tools for this population;
3) Learn about resources to aid corrections workers seeking EAP services
