Description
An awareness of cultural differences is essential in EAP practices. EAP needs to localize in order to be fully effective. This has been successfully done in many countries around the world. But China presents a much bigger challenge. Not only is the culture unique, but also a political system that would appear to be in conflict with many of the core concepts of EAP. However, both the culture and the political structure are not as incompatible with EAP as they may first appear. Once one understands both, they can be a catalyst to EAP development instead of a hindrance.
1) Organize and deliver services to individuals and organizations from the Chinese culture and in other cross culture settings; 2) Identify potential partners in cross culture settings and create innovative EAPs; and 3) Overcome stereotyped understandings and interpret culture-based behaviors and signals correctly.
